Horse Hair Pottery Hand Made Vase by Tom Vail 4” & Jack Thoreau 3.5” Navajo Art

This beautiful vase is a handmade piece of art created by Tom Vail ( the taller 4”) , a skilled artisan. The intricate design is inspired by Navajo pottery and features horse hair for a unique touch. The pottery originates from the South West region of the United States and embodies the culture of Native Americans. The other vase,3.5” H, was created by the Navajo artist Jack Thoreau- both are from New Mexico.


Horse Hair is a special technique where horse hair is used to decorate the surface. Basically, the idea is to burn the hairs onto the surface to create lines. Hairs are laid upon a hot surface, that have just come out from the kiln, they will burn onto the pieces leaving localised carbon marks.


The larger vase is in excellent preowned condition 4” H x 4” diameter at widest point, 2.5” base, 2” top
