Alaska contains around 470 species of birds. Some of them are present year-round, and some visit at certain times of the year. Vagrant birds are birds which are rarely seen. They may be present one year and then absent for the next several years. Even though they are rare, they have been included in this book. Vagrant backyard birds are listed with the common backyard birds. The vagrant ducks and geese are listed immediately after the common ones in their own sections.
